If they were hit with lots of complaints regarding the petition then they may consider stopping it. But only if it is enough letters for them to be genuinely worried that they will lose a LOT of customers. Upsetting a couple residents of a nearby village won't distract from the potential of thousands of new customers. Of course you could always carry out your own petition outside the front doors countering theirs and hope you get more signatures than them. That would be taken far more seriously than a letter appealing for 'informed balance'. Could TABU approach the company and ask for a petition against the new stadium to be put on display, as well, this would give an informed balance? As an MP he has limited powers to directly intervene - but he is able to enage with the main groups involved and is able to direct concerns to the right place...
